Materials For This Project

Containers from the Dollar Store

I have found that these cheap plactic containers I found at the local dollar store to be great for the hydroponic gardening process.

The lids are sturdy enough to withstand the drilling process and serve the process nicely

Long container for multiple seeds

These longer containers will nicely accommodate openings for five net pots.

There are other similar plastic containers with flatter lids that can accommodate as many as 8 net pots.

containers for single plantings

The smaller variety of these plastic containers are just right for single net pot plantings.

Containers can be anything

I am a peanut "nut" so I had a number of these containers around and found that a single 2" net pot fit nicely in this container top

These are great for larger plants

Being creative and looking around the discarded plastic containers from the kitchen I found these which are great for keeping larger plants.

The Net Pots and Plant Markers

I used 2 inch net pots for my project. Ordered on Amazon and complete with little plastic markers. A permanent marker works fine on the little markers.

Peat Pellets for the Seeds

Peat pellets 42mm in size were used for part of the project. Have to admit when soaked and ready for planting they were a bit large for the 2 inch net pots and maybe a slightly smaller pellet would be best for these pots I used.

Vermiculite for Seed Planting

Another part of theproject was using vermiculite in the net pots for growing medium. This worked good as well, however a bit more messy.

Plant Food for the Water Mixture

The water used in the containers should have a very light mixture of fertilizer for the roots. As you can see I prefer Miracle-Gro.
