Williamsburg Trip May 2019

So to beat the "out of school" crowds we left for our trip to Williamsburg, Virginia in mid May.

Upon arriving we disovered that it was a wee bit cooler than we have come to like having become used to the south Florida climate. This was to last only a day or so and then it warmed up for the remainder of the visit.

The First day we visited the restored village of old Williamsburg. Some of the day was spent dodging showers, but not a wash-out.

Since many of the buildings were open to touring we were in and out of the rain nicely and had a nice lunch in an old restored tavern.

After Williamsburg, we were off to Jamestown Village. I must say we were both most impressed by this part of the trip.

The Village had demonstrations of the crafts and life in the Colonial era and the Village /Fort area was very interesting. We especially enjoyed the old sailing ships which we could board and explore.

The Yorktown National Park and Museum visit was very good as well. The museum is one that you could spend most of your day and not absorb all that was offered. Movies were available showing recreation of colonial life and battles that were fought.

A park ranger led an outdoor tour of the area where the actual final battle was fought against General Cornwall and the brittish. The Museum is where the brittish fort stood, and we were able to see the mounds dug by the colonial forces during the attack on the fort. So interesting to be standing where the final battles were fought for our country's independance and hear the descriptions of the terrible price that was paid on those grounds.

Our final day was a stop in Charleston, SC at the Magnolia Plantation. It had really warmed up and the crowds were larger, so it took some drinks and ice cream to add to the enjoyment of this plantation.
